Portraits with Personality
2018-10-15_0002.jpg

The term ‘Corporate Headshot’ is over. We are all personal brands when it comes to social media. Potential clients like to connect not only with the business, but with the person behind it. That’s why we’re here to show you how you can do things a bit differently.

Forget traditional, unless it truly speaks to you.

Instead of trying hard to show how serious you are, choose to make yourself relatable to your audience. The beauty of social media is its ability to connect like minded people, so use that to your advantage.

The fitness industry is a tricky one, as new clients often feel intimidated. A friendly and inviting approach is often the most effective as it makes all the difference if the new gym-goer feels welcomed by the person who will be training them. This is why at David Lloyd Derby we opted for a more friendly relaxed approach, instead of all guns blazing! (Pardon the pun!)

In Matt’s case below, traditional suits him. He is a CEO, speaker and a well known businessman. As a public figure, it’s good to remain neutral. Although we did shoot his photos on location, it helped changing it up from a standard studio background. That brings us to our next point.

Ditch the studio...

Pick a background that reflects you, whether that’s your office, a coffee shop or something that relates to your business. Shooting on location will make you more laid-back, and that’s sure to bring out your best self.

Let’s take these three lovely ladies for example. Jade below, a consultant, wasn’t too excited with the thought of having her photos taken (lets face it, none of us are!). We knew that taking her to a more relaxed setting would make her more comfortable, so a local coffee shop was the place of choice, and we were right! The familiar place helped bring out her bubbly personality, which shows just how approachable and friendly she is to her audience.

A similar approach was taken with Rachel below, and the chosen background was a local restaurant. She is the owner of her own bid writing and consultancy business called Ask The Chameleon, and wanted something more fashionable and relaxed. The Yard’s statement wall and creative lighting we added, really made the image pop!

Rachel.jpg

As for Louise, she is the head of Marketing for NK Motors, and the location for the shoot was her workplace. Different lighting techniques were used, to make sure she is the main focus, but still bringing some attention to the cars in the background.

Louise.jpg

Wear what you like!

Don’t like wearing suits? Don’t wear one then! It doesn’t matter if you’re the CEO of a Fortune 500 company; if you prefer to wear sandals in your day to day job, wear sandals in your photo. I mean, look at Steve Jobs for example. This also applies if your job requires a specific uniform. You are showing YOU, not your job.

Suzanne.jpg

Suzanne above here is in the Health and Safety industry, which sometimes can be portrayed as stuffy. Shot in The QUAD, we thought it was important to show Suzanne the individual, who is in fact incredibly laid back and friendly, and the photo shows that well.

And finally, choose a team of photographers who know what they’re doing.

A well experienced photographer will make sure the outcome highlights your most compelling traits. We use these techniques daily in our business, and no two portraits come out the same, because no two people are the same. Our main objective is to make sure the client is heard, and have their true identity portrayed.

Julian.jpg

As you can see from our selection, there is no right or wrong way of taking a portrait. What matters is that you find a way to make your audience respond to you. It is easier to trust a human being, especially a relatable one, and there is nothing more important to a business than a client’s trust.

November Monthly Overview

There’s always so much going on here at ‘AV IT that we thought we’d start sharing a monthly overview of the major events we have covered. With such a diverse client list, we pride ourselves in the work we do, so we thought we’d give you a little taster of what we’ve been up to this month.

Rays Of Sunshine Winter Gala 2018

The month was kick-started by the Rays Of Sunshine Winter Gala on the 8th of November. Rays Of Sunshine are a registered charity that grants wishes to children portable of serious or life-threatening diseases. Their vision is to make wishes come true and turn them into happy memories*. To know more about the charity, check out their website.

The evening was full with joy, laughter and great music. Hosted by none other than Vernon Kay, and carried out with performances from Jack Pack, Olly Murs and the Rays of Sunshine Children’s choir, our team of (amazing) photographers and Directors, Mark Averill and Ash Stanley, sought out to capture the very essence of the night. For more photos, visit their gallery.

Derby County Football Club

If you’re a DCFC fan then you’ve definitely seen our new digital boards at the home games. Our commercial partnership with Derby County was a great achievement, and we are ecstatic to be able to take photos of their games, training kit, and Pride Park Stadium. Take a look at some of the photos from their last home game below, along with the new training kit for 2018/19. We are very much looking forward to working with Derby County moving forward in the the New Year!

University of Derby Media Production Students

We also had the immense pleasure of speaking to the University of Derby Film and Media Production students. Blown away by the raw talent and passion most of the students displayed, we thought to combine our necessity for a videographer with their necessity for experience. So we hosted interviews with some of the students that approached us after the talk.

We suddenly found ourselves in a room with a group of young experts, each with different strengths and backgrounds. Even though they all studied the same subject, they all showcased unique skill sets, which made it all the harder for us to decide who would best fit our company.

After careful consideration, we decided to take on two new additions to the ‘AV IT Team, and we’ll be welcoming them on our web platforms soon, but for now we’d just like to thank the University of Derby for asking us to do this talk. It has made us remember how much our younger generation should be invested in.

Listers Group

Who doesn’t love a stylish car shot? We know we take the best ones. Our biggest clients, Listers SEAT - Coventry, have statistical proof that our photos have increased the amount of leads per click on their cars since March 2018. Funnily enough, that’s exactly when they started using our photos. Coincidence? We think not. Automotive photography is our expertise, just take a look at some of the photos below and you’ll understand what we’re talking about. We are looking to grow our Automotive portfolio in the New Year, and believe we can help reach new heights with this, with our new partnership with WDA Automotive, the experts in Automotive Marketing.

BMW 8 Series Launch

That’s not all when it comes to cars. The ‘AV IT team had the pleasure of covering the new BMW 8 series release at Stratstone BMW Derby. What a way to end the month! If you’re car obsessed like we are, you’ve most likely been patiently waiting for the launch of the new BMW. In the gallery below you will find a few photos of the newly unveiled car. What an honour this was.

Fitness Shoots

We had a great time photographing the professional center midfield footballer and entrepreneur Curtis J Weston, Personal Trainer and Nutritional Adviser Tobias Wayland, and Herbalife representative Dean Owen. Check out their Instagram accounts linked for more.

Mr Shaw

The Mr Shaw and Silver Birch Creative  team is considered ‘AV IT family. If you follow us on Instagram you have definitely seen them being featured. Their brand is based on old-fashioned values, in a modern diverse world. “Influence others, and Pride in what you do”, that’s the Mr Shaw way. Featured in the header is Shane Nicholson, professional footballer from back in the day. Shane, aka Shinner, is an example citizen, and this is why Mr Shaw chose to dedicate the Influence S Tee to him. He carries all the values of the Mr Shaw man. All of these photos were taken on location, but can you guess where...

Like what we do? Follow us on social media, and stay tuned for next month’s highlights!
